What’s your favorite word?
My favorite word is not a part of the English language. And it’s not a word that means peace, or love. It is a word in German that I learned in my middle school foreign language class. What’s my word?
It is the German word for 12, “Swolf”.

I love the sound of this word. I love the way the “S” and the W roll off the tongue, and the way the “l” and “f” may my lip curl. But it is just the name for Twelve.
But there were 12 Apostles and there are 12 eggs in a dozen. So maybe it is some of those classifications that bring me comfort? I don’t know, but I have loved this word since I was 12 and in middle school! Hah! Perhaps it really is my lucky number!
What is yours?

Mine is schmetterling. Also German. It means butterfly and sounds prettier to mere than butterfly.
