Life Cycle

“We often think life is linear until something happens to remind us that it is not. Life is cyclical. Nature shows us this. We are part of the natural world, but so often I think we forget it. We think there is something wrong with us if we cannot forever maintain a certain trajectory upward.” The Woman They Wanted, by Shannon Harris

So, so much of my life was spent reaching higher. Going farther. It was an unattainable lifestyle they kept me in a cycle of discontent. If only things could just remain the same and float through life. It was impossible to battle the need and desire to grasp for more.

I dare say, we all find ourselves, at one point or another, forcing ourselves to reel against the forces of entropy, which is the lack of order or predictability.

We search for perfection which creates nothing but what if’s and if only’s, and want to’s. So, why more? Why are we filled with the belief that life is more than the daily pieces that make up a life of joy and contentment.

Even a beautiful flower dies off at the end of summer. It will sleep until the following spring. Nature takes a break from growing and striving, so why shouldn’t we? It is a mistake to value only the moment of flowering.

My favorite season in Colorado is winter. Yes, I love summer and all the activities that are almost a nightly occurrence. But I love the peace and quiet and solitude of winter. I love snow days when I can stay in my jammies, curl up with a heavy blanket and a good book. I love not being tied to the hours of the day and can relax, deeply relax and heal in a way from all those responsibilities of the previous season.
