What is your favorite drink?
Likely everyone reading this will think I am speaking of alcoholic drink, but there are way more options that do not involve alcohol.
Years ago, I had a strong penance for Diet Pepsi. I had to limit myself to 2 a day because I could drink it all day long. Then, somewhere in time, I gave up soda of any kind except for the occasional carbonated beverage as a splurge, perhaps twice a year. I had heard it could ruin your teeth and pickle raw eggs. Who knows if any of that was true, but I did wean myself.

I am an avid coffee drinker. I have also limited myself to 2 cups in the morning. I cannot imagine a morning without my dark roast, which I drink exclusively. I want a whole bodied, robust coffee in the mornings to get my motor running. The only time, I veer from my 2 cup limit, is possibly when I’m sick and want something warm to coat my throat.

Speaking of, to warm the throat, I also love hot tea. A close friend introduced me to some peppermint/creamy vanilla tea and it tastes almost like caramel. And, it has no caffeine! So now, that and my dark Irish breakfast tea, are the two I reach for in the afternoon with my 3 pm snack. It keeps me going until dinner time.
Back to the question of alcoholic drink. I do enjoy a glass of wine, but a friend turned me onto a concoction she sells at the Farmer’s Market that sits well with me. It is also good for you. It’s called a Shrub.
Having long heard of the benefits of apple cider vinegar for gut health, and so forth, it is an apple cider vinegar concoction made with fruit, sweetener and, you guessed it, ACV!
It is one cup fruit, I use strawberries. One cup monk fruit sweetener, or sugar and 2 cups ACV. I throw in a couple of cinnamon sticks for good measure. Throw all in a large mason jar and shake every day for 5 days until you see the sweetener begin to dissolve and incorporate. Then strain the fruit out, and bottle it.
This is what I put into my vodka soda. A teaspoon of the strawberry shrub. It adds just enough flavor to make me come back for more. And of course, it is wonderful just with a club soda! No vodka needed.
