Kay was born in Harlingen, Texas on August 10, 1949. Her family moved to Corpus Christi shortly before she turned one year old. They then moved to Fort Worth when she was 7 and to Dallas when she was 12.
Most Cuchara residents know Kay’s husband, Marshall Moore. They will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary in October 2021. They were married in high school and no one thought the marriage would last, but they grew up pretty fast!
Kay and Marshall have 3 children. Melinda who is married and has 4 children, three of which are married. Her son Richard is married and has one daughter, Jordan who is married and has 2 boys adopted from South Korea. Marshall and Kay have two great grandchildren!
Kay’s parents, Sam and Anita Vaughan, built their cabin in 1969. Her mother died in Cuchara in 1993 and Kay and Marshal bought the cabin from her dad in 2004.
Kay has been a longtime active member of Hermosa, Knit Wits, the La Veta Library, the Chapel and others.
