Recently, there was an article in Out There Colorado, about a woman, who had secretly been hand feeding bears for over 10 years. She was in her home, was attacked and eaten.

It is almost that time of year again. When the bears emerge from their dens after a long winter’s sleep and fast. They emerge thin and hungry.
Sometimes I think because we all had Teddy Bears as children, we think real bears are cute and cuddly. They are not. They are wild and should be left alone. We should not feed them and we should try to keep our trash locked and covered so as not to tempt them.
Bears only want two things, in my mind, to eat and procreate. They really don’t want anything to do with people and are easily run off with a water hose, most of the time.

For our own protection we should give them a wide berth. Let them go among their business and not try to interfere with them in any way. Take a photo from a distance, if you must, but let’s stop thinking we can tame them. We can’t.
